Established by the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, working with its international partners, our Comics Can Change the World site will focus on its year round work promoting comics in the classroom, in partnership and the promotion of comic creators and “The Ninth Art”.
Current projects include support for the British Comics Laureate, currently Bobby Joseph (2023 – 2025), and his plans to bring comics to a wider audience; the Comic Potential conference for academics studying comics as an art form; and international partnerships with Comic Art Europe and many other organisations across the globe.
The work of the Lakes International Comic Art Festival, which continues its annual event in Bowness-on-Windermere, is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and the UK Government. It is also supported by Lake District National Park Authority and Westmorland and Furness Council.
We are also supported by (in alphabetical order): The British Council, Comic Art Europe, The Czech Literary Centre, The Finnish Institute, Flanders Literature, Institut Francais, The Italian Cultural Institute, Lakeland Arts, The National Cartoonists Society of America, the Paul Hamlyn Foundation, the University of Manchester, Sheffield Hallam University, Wallonie-Bruxelles International – and other local, national and international partners.
